Higer Electric Minivans to Deliver Packages Next Year
On the morning of December 16, Suzhou Higer Bus released a series of electric vehicles, including a new model of pure-electric minivan. With a designed capacity of two-hour charging for 150 kilometers, these engine-free minibuses will hopefully be put on trial operation as the means to cover "the last mile" of logistic services.
According to the statistics from Suzhou Postal Administration, the city recorded total express delivery of 159.1411 million packages during the first half of 2014, increasing by 34.96% over the previous year and averaging two million packages a day. There are 2,000 certified delivery vehicles at work, sending 92 kilograms of carbon into air each day. Local authority hopes that the use of electric vehicles would bring the figure down and is working on setting up at least two charging service companies.
Wan Sihong, head of the city's new-energy vehicle promotion office and deputy director of Suzhou Economic and Information Technology Commission, said there were 1,200 new-energy cars and 800 electric cars on the road in Suzhou and that the city would use more electric vehicles next year for delivery, logistics, and special sectors.
