Queen of Belgium Visits Bo'ai School

Queen Mathilde of Belgium visited Bo'ai School in Suzhou Industrial Park on June 26, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Sheng Lei of Suzhou Municipality, to learn about the education concept and achievements of the special school for handicapped children. She shared the picture books with the children and received gifts made by the kids themselves.

A drum band of six kids welcomed the queen with vibrant rhythm. As one of the earliest civilian-run non-profit educational institution for rehabilitation of handicapped children, Bo'ai School has worked out a whole set of overall rehabilitation methods for special children by international standard under the loving care of the government and enterprises.

"Bo'ai School is largely reliant on the support of the government. The visit by the queen also shows the government's concern about the special children," said schoolmaster Liang Bing, who told the reporter that the queen had the background of being a professional therapist in language training and she enquired into the training courses and teaching methodology in the school, and expressed readiness to share good experience of Belgium with Bo'ai School.

Apart from support from the government and social organizations, the sustained care of enterprises has served as an impetus for the school. Umicore Autocat (China) Co., Ltd., a Belgian-funded enterprise in SIP, has partnered with the school since 2009 and carried out regular volunteer activities involving employees, such as outings and learning to make ice cream, etc, which brought joys to the kids.
