Diverse events give youngsters a leg up in their growth
Communities at Loufeng Sub-district recently organized a variety of events that gave the local youngsters a leg up in their growth.
The sinology class in Dushuhu Community started on Aug 14. In one of the sessions, volunteer teacher Zhu gave the children an easy-to-understand introduction to the Chinese academic schools and their philosophies that flourished from 770 to 221 BC, and encouraged them to carry forward traditional Chinese culture in an innovative way.
Donggang Jiayi Community hosted an event on Aug 13, when the volunteer teacher imparted legal and safety knowledge to the youngsters based on an animated video and real cases, offered them methods of coping with emergencies like outdoor accidents, fire and food poisoning, and answered their inquiries.
In another event in the community on the same day, the youngsters listened to the volunteer teacher's stories about desert and cactus and acquired a better understanding of the impact of land deterioration on human life. They also drew pictures of cactus to show their expectations for a clean and pollution-free world.
The event in Tongyuanlu Community took place on Aug 13, when the children gained a better knowledge of traffic rules from the volunteer teacher's explanation based on real cases and pictures, and made traffic light models with the help and instructions from the teacher and their parents.
Donggang Jiale Community held a parent-child reading session on Aug 12, trying to pique children's interest in reading. In the event, a community staff member vividly told over 50 children and their parents a story based on No, David!, a picture book by American writer and illustrator David Shannon, and guided the children to understand the reasons that the mischievous protagonist was frequently told "No" by his mother.
