A group of Suzhou officials who started to work in Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region in late March under a “pairing assistance” program visited seven local residents of minority ethnic groups on May 2, the day after the International Workers’ Day, and gave them festival gifts along with greetings.
The officials were sent by Suzhou government to help boost economic development, improve people’s wellbeing and unify people of different ethnic groups in the region.
In the event, the officials visited the residents in different villages, and then dined and chatted with them. They inquired of the residents about their work, incomes, children’s education and other aspects of life, offered them suggestions on ways of increasing their incomes, and expounded on related supporting policies to them.
