Foundation Laid in Suzhou for International College of the Renmin University
A grand foundation laying ceremony was held at Dushu Lake Higher Education Town, SIP, on April 9, for International College of Renmin University. Ji Baocheng, President of Renmin Univeristy, and Wang Rong, Executive Member of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Secretary of CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee, attended the ceremony and personally unveiled the foundation stone.
The establishment of the college, a teaching and research institute, is based on the agreement of cooperation between Suzhou Municipal Government and Renmin University, and aimed to carry out postgraduate education and frontline scientific research to meet the demands of Suzhou and SIP in social and economic development. The college will give priority to internationalized liberal arts and the training of high-level talents through international exchanges.
The project at the present college site will involve a total constructed area of 70,000m2, to be completed in two stages and divided into comprehensive teaching zones, administrative zone, and educational auxiliary zone. The first phase of construction covering 35,000m2 will be ready for use by September next year. The college will launch two projects in June this year, the senior judge-training course through Renmin-Yale University cooperation and Missouri Journalism College.
At the foundation ceremony, President Ji Baocheng outlined the brilliant history and development course of the university, and pledged that the university would go all out to build the college into an important teaching and research base of Renmin University as an integral part of the development strategy of the university.
Wang Rong in his speech acclaimed that the foundation laying marked a new stage in the bilateral cooperation between Renmin University and Suzhou, and believed that the college would play an important role in raising the level of opening up to the outside world and in scientific development. He said that the college would bring new momentum and new opportunities for better and faster growth of Suzhou. He assured the audience that the Party committee and government of Suzhou would take specific measures to assist the speedy construction of the college and make it a influential teaching and research base in the Yangtze delta region.
The ceremony was presided over by Wang Jinhua, Deputy Secretary of CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee and Secretary of SIP Party Working Committee, and the foundation stone was laid by Prof. Niu Weiling, Executive Deputy Party Secretary and Vice-president of the university, Prof. Feng Jun, Vice-president of the university, Du Guoling, Deputy Secretary of CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee, Dong Zhouzhou, Deputy Secretary-general of Suzhou Municipal Government, Bao Yinchu, Head of Suzhou Municipal Bureau of Education, and Pan Yunguan, Deputy Secretary of SIP Party Working Committee, etc. Also present at the ceremony were responsible members from departments concerned of the university, the municipal Party committee and government of Suzhou, the Administrative Committee of SIP, the management office of the Higher Education Town, and representatives of universities and research institutes in the town.
