Governor Liang Baohua Meets Singaporean Minister for Education
Liang Baohua, Governor of Jiangsu Province, met Mr. Sharman Shanmugaratnam, Singaporean Minister for Education, and his entourage on the morning of Jan. 8 and had a cordial talk with the guests.
Governor Liang expressed welcome to Minister Shanmugaratnam for his visit to Jiangsu, saying that close relations of extensive cooperation existed between Jiangsu Province and Singapore in the fields of economics, trade, culture, education and technology with fruitful results. Singapore has more cooperation projects with Jiangsu than any other provinces in China, and Suzhou Industrial Park has become a symbol of Sino-Singapore friendship. Liang particularly mentioned the great potential and bright prospect in the cooperation between the two sides. He said, "we are ready to expand such cooperation in all fields to achieve mutual benefit and development. The Provincial Government supports all cooperation between the universities of Jiangsu and advanced universities overseas, and encourages all sorts of exchanges in the basic education and vocational trainings." Liang also gave an outlined account on the social and economic progress in Jiangsu Province.
Minister Sharman Shanmugaratnam thanked Liang for the warm reception and said that Jiangsu was the province where Singapore has put in the heaviest investment in China, and that the open Jiangsu had ensured the success of economic and trade cooperation between the two sides. He praised the superior level of talents in Jiangsu, and emphasized that the cooperation in the field of education covered all levels. The minister hoped that the two sides would deepen the cooperation in extended fields and build up a relationship of long-term cooperation.
Also at the meeting were Luo Zhijun, Member of Standing Committee of Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of Nanjing Municipal Party Committee, and Li Xiaomin, Secretary General of Provincial Government.
