This autumn, an about 50-year-old persimmon tree stretching out the wall of a private house near the Subway Line 4 Beisita Station went viral online, attracting many people to photograph it and making the ancient Beisi Pagoda near it more famous than before.

Beisi Pagoda, also called North Temple Pagoda or Bao’en Temple Pagoda, was originally built from brick and wood by Sun Quan (AD 182-252), who ruled the State of Wu during the Three Kingdoms Period (AD 220-280), for his mother.

The nine-storey, octagonal pagoda boasts a height of about 76 meters, with overhanging eaves and copper bells tinkling in wind. Nearly all the people in Suzhou have the experience of ascending the pagoda to enjoy a full view of the city.
