An invitation exhibition, one of a series of events which started from March to mark the 100th anniversary of the introduction of pastel to China, kicked off at SIP’s Ligongdi Cultural and Creative Block on Oct 19, and will last till Nov 24. On display are 132 pastels by 100 Chinese artists and 32 foreign artists.

The pastels, on display at Ming Gallery of Art and Pastel Art Museum, showcase the Chinese artists’ attainments in pastel painting and the evolution of the art form since it was brought into the country in 1919.

It is reported that the exhibition is paired with a forum where over 10 domestic and overseas experts and artists will discuss a list of topics concerning current and future development of pastels, and two workshops, six painting demonstrations, a painting tour and a painting materials fair.

The opening ceremony incorporated an award ceremony to commend individuals and organizations with remarkable contributions to the development and spread of the art of pastel.
