Dongshahu sub-district recently saw two events to mark the upcoming Double Ninth Festival, or Chongyang Festival, a celebration for the elderly, which, reckoned on the ninth day of the ninth month on the Chinese lunar calendar, will fall on Oct 17 this year.

SIP Dongshahu Calligraphy and Painting Club hosted an event at the local resident liaison center for the participating calligraphy and painting enthusiasts to have a glimpse of its members’ latest works and demonstrate their talents on site.

Fenghuangcheng Community organized an event on Oct 9, when the volunteer teacher gave 30 senior residents a detailed account of traditions related to the festival and taught them to make cakes that Chinese like to eat on the festival. The event not only enhanced the participants’ knowledge of the festival, but also offered them a good chance to interact with each other.
