Hudong sub-district saw a series of events in different communities from Feb 22 to 27 to mark the Chinese Lantern Festival, which, reckoned on the fifteenth day of the first month on the Chinese lunar calendar, falls on Mar 2 this year.

"Guessing lantern riddles", one of the traditional ways to celebrate the festival since ancient China, is still an essential component of all the events. The participants showcased great zest in answering the riddles on the lanterns and those who gave the right answers received prizes.

Some of the events also incorporated other activities. For example, the participants in Zhongtang Community made lanterns, and those in International Waterfront Community and Hupan Tiancheng Community shared rice glue balls, a kind of small dumpling balls made of glutinous rice flour with sweet fillings to symbolize family reunion.
