Communities at Huxi sub-district recently hosted an assortment of events to mark the Chinese Lantern Festival, which, reckoned on the fifteenth day of the first month on the Chinese lunar calendar, falls on Mar 2 this year.

"Guessing lantern riddles", a traditional and essential component of the festival celebrations, took place across the sub-district. In the events, the residents showcased great wisdom in figuring out the answers to the riddles on the lanterns as well as gained new knowledge in a fun atmosphere.

Apart from that, many communities organized DIY events, teaching the youngsters to make lanterns with waste materials like used paper boxes and zip-top cans. The events not only enhanced the youngsters' creativity and hands-on ability but also helped them acquire a better understanding of traditional Chinese culture.

Moreover, the volunteers at different communities made rice glue balls (small dumpling balls made of glutinous rice flour with sweet fillings), a traditional food people eat on the day, and presented them to the empty-nest elderly (whose children live or work far away from home) as a token of love and care for them.
