In recent years, Suzhou has seen an increasing number of college students trying to do their bit in environmental protection with their expertise. A teacher from Soochow University Green Association revealed that seven teams composed of over 250 students from Soochow University, Suzhou University of Science and Technology and Suzhou Vocational Institute of Industrial Technology and other schools have formed a think tank alliance to support environmental research projects.

The college students have made remarkable contributions in many projects. In one case, 81 students planted 10,000 sqm of trees in desert in six years, while in other cases, the participants conducted surveys on water quality and pollution sources.

The students' projects provide valuable reference for environmental actions, and are encouraging more schools and their students to join their ranks. It is learnt that Wujiang District and Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University jointly founded an ecological civilization research center in March.
