SIG Combibloc, a Swiss aseptic packaging solution supplier, broke ground on a new factory in SIP on Nov 18. The RMB 1.4 billion (EUR 180 million) project will be SIG Combibloc’s third manufacturing base in the Asia-Pacific region for production of aseptic packaging for liquid food and beverage industry.

With a land area of 120,000 square meters, the new factory is expected to come into operation in 2020. It will be equipped with advanced eco-friendly production lines to make best-in-class packaging products for its clients in the Asia-Pacific region.

It is also SIG Combibloc’s third project in SIP. The company founded SIG Combibloc (Suzhou) Co Ltd in the area in 2002, and SIG Combibloc Asia-Pacific Technical Center later. The former yields 12 billion carton packaging products each year, with a huge client base including Chinese dairy giants Mengniu, Yili and Bright Dairy & Food.

“We have confidence in the Chinese market and the Asia-Pacific market, so we’ve added the investment. The new facility will enable us to provide more innovative solutions to the target markets in a more efficient way,” the company’s CEO Rolf Stangl said.
