Tan Jianrong, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and dean of Department of Mechanical Engineering at Zhejiang University, gave a lecture on AI and smart manufacturing on Oct 28 to over 180 technical staff from local enterprises and teachers and students from local schools.

The event is part of the "Jinji Lake Public Lectures" program launched by SIP Training Management Center in July to organize training and salon sessions on a regular basis for enterprises and their staff to enhance interaction with their peers and learn experience from others.

At the event, using easy-to-understand language, Tan first gave the participants a detailed account of the definition and development trajectory of smart manufacturing, and expounded on a series of key AI technologies and hot topics concerning their application. Then he answered the participants' inquiries and presented to them several autographed copies of his book on smart manufacturing.

Apart from that, the event incorporated a discussion session where several experts and scholars from local enterprises and schools shared their views and offered suggestions on strategies of expanding application of smart technologies for industrial purpose.
