Sponsored by SIP Service Outsourcing Association, an information session on GDPR was held at SIP Institute of Services Outsourcing on July 5, enabling the local enterprises to gain a better understanding of EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Officials from related administrative departments and over 40 enterprise executives and technical personnel were present.

GDPR is a regulation by which the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission intend to strengthen and unify data protection across the EU. It has become enforceable starting May 25, holding businesses that operate or have customers in Europe responsible for collection, use and processing of data from citizens within the EU. Violators could receive a fine of up to the larger amount of 4% of their global revenue or EUR 20 million.

At the event, the lecturer Chen Tianjie gave the participants a detailed account of the GDPR terms and range of application, and offered the enterprises advice on how to keep compliant with it and avoid potential risks.
