Yang Peidong from SINANO Honored as Top Material Scientist by Thomson Reuters

As part of the celebration of International Year of Chemistry in 2011 announced by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), Thomson Reuters, the world's leading information company, recently announced the Top 100 Material Scientists and Top 100 Chemists 2000-2010. Yang Peidong from Suzhou Institute of Nano-Tech and Nano-Bionics (SINANO) of Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) in charge of SINANO international laboratory ranked the first and the tenth on the lists respectively.

Born in Likou Town, Suzhou, Yang Peidong graduated from Mudu High School of Wu County (Mudu High School of Wuzhong District) in 1988, from China University of Technology in 1993, and from Harvard University Department of Chemistry & Chemical Biology with PhD degree in 1997 after four-year study. He has been assistant and associate professor, professor, and tenure professor at Department of Chemistry, University of California at Berkeley since 1999. He won Alfred Sloan Award in 2001, Beckman Young Investigator Award in 2002, the honor of World's Top 100 Young Innovators from US Technology Review Magazine in 2003, Outstanding Young Investigator Award from US Materials Research Society (MRS) in 2004, and Alan T. Waterman Award from US National Science Foundation in 2007. He is one of the leading figures in the field of new chemical materials and nano-tech. He has been a research fellow at SINANO in charge of its international lab since June 2008.
