James, Nicole, Matthew, and Aidan are four British interns teaching English classes at HKU SPACE Global College, Suzhou. Coming to Suzhou Industrial Park through an international cultural exchange program in September last year, they are extremely popular among students.

"There are beautiful views and delicious food here," said Nicole, a graduate of University of Manchester, "more importantly, there's the SPACE and that's the reason why we love this city."

They teach freshmen and sophomores spoken English and creative writing with interesting interaction, fun games, and group activities.

James graduated from the School of Oriental and African Studies at University of London and studied Chinese language at Beijing Normal University. But he never speaks Chinese in class. "If my students don't understand, I'll explain to them in simple English or even use body language. I don't speak Chinese to them for I want them to really get absorbed in English. This is the only way that you can learn it well."

They are teachers in classroom and good friends to students after class. As a matter of fact, Matthew is the captain of SPACE football team and practices with students once a week.

Aidan is a student of Oxford and has to go back to UK to finish school in September. He remembered to Yangtse Evening Post a fun story. "Last Christmas, every student of mine gave me an apple as Christmas gift. I had apples for every meal and it took me a month to eat up them all." He said the other three wanted to stay and he would like to come back to SPACE after graduation, "because I love my students."
