The eight-day TotalEnergies BWF Sudirman Cup Finals 2023, the 18th edition of the Sudirman Cup, a BWF (Badminton World Federation)’s Grade 1 team tournament, kicked off at Suzhou Olympic Sports Centre (SZOSC), Jinji Lake CBD, SIP on May 14.
The event is the third first-class international sporting event held in Suzhou, following the 2015 World Table Tennis Championships and the TOTAL BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals 2016.
More than 500 badminton players from 16 countries and regions competed in the men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles, and 600 reporters came to Suzhou to cover the event. About 100,000 people watched the matches on site.
The event drew attention to Jinji Lake CBD, the core area of SIP known for its integrated development of culture, sports and tourism. The CBD each year hosts a list of sports events including the Suzhou Jinji Lake Half Marathon and the Jinji Lake Dragon Boat Race, which have earned it wide international fame and boosted its economic growth.
