Smoldered Sweet Potato Coated with Sugar was created in 1821 by Huang Tian Yuan, a time-honored cake and pastry brand. In the past, Huang Tian Yuan often used a big wok to cook the snack in front of its doors when sweet potatoes were in season. However, today, this food is rarely seen.
To make the snack, the sweet potatoes are smoldered in an iron wok with vegetable oil on its surface and a small amount of water. Brown sugar is added before the sweet potatoes are taken out of the wok.
