SIP’s Shengpu Sub-district recently saw a series of art performances designed to enrich the local residents’ life.

Langhuayuan Community offers traditional Chinese opera performances every Wednesday to the local retirees. In the event on Nov 27, Shen Heinan, a local retiree who is leading the community’s art troupe, and three other performers staged several classic Yu opera (one of China’s most famous opera forms) episodes, drawing intermittent applause from the audiences. 

 

The residents in Wentaoyuan Community were treated to wonderful xuanjuan (a traditional storytelling and ballad singing in Suzhou dialect) performances on Nov 26. The performers also interacted with the audiences during the performances.
