Suzhou is expected to see a thriving musical scene this year, according to SIP-based Suzhou Culture and Arts Centre (SCAC) which, operated by Suzhou New Times Group, plans to feast Suzhou audiences' eyes and ears over the rest of year with five musicals (36 performances) it has introduced from overseas.

Among the musicals will be Broadway show School of Rock from May 28 to June 2, French musical Romeo and Juliet in July, Chinese version of Mamma Mia in October, Broadway and West End production Evita in November, and American musical Chicago in December. All of the works have made great success at box offices worldwide.

At the same time, SCAC is endeavoring to help local audiences know better about the art of musical and related culture. In one move, it has been pushing on a program since March to give lessons on musicals and theater etiquette to students at schools across the city.
