SIP Dongshahu Community Working Committee inaugurated three angling zones at SIP’s Dongsha Lake Park on Oct 14, hoping to limit activities of catching fish with a rod, line and hook within specific zones for better management and protection of Dongsha Lake and the surrounding waters.
It is learnt that the Dongshahu sub-district authorities carried out a campaign in July to curb illegal fishing activities that local residents had been complaining about. Despite of a good effect of the campaign, the local authorities believe that more long-acting measures should be adopted. Therefore, the angling zones were designated, and a volunteer team composed of local anglers was formed concurrently to help expose and deter illegal fishing activities.
The angling zones are equipped with signs, marks and management offices, and are open to members of Suzhou Angling Association.
At the event, four organizations with excellent performance in the July campaign received awards, and tens of local anglers received the membership cards from Suzhou Angling Association SIP Branch.
