SIP Week kicks off in Singapore

Suzhou Industrial Park Week (SIP Week) kicked off in Singapore on May 26. It is part of Jiangsu (China) Culture and Tourism Year 2019, the first event of its kind jointly sponsored by China Culture Center (Singapore) and Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism.

Organized by SIP Administrative Committee, SIP Week is expected to increase Singaporeans’ understanding of SIP which, the first cooperative project of its kind between the Chinese and Singaporean governments, celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.

Xiao Jianghua, director of China Culture Center (Singapore), Xu Guoping, director of SIP Planning and Construction Committee, and Terence Ho, nominated member of the Parliament of Singapore, spoke at the event and expressed expectations for further reinforced cooperation between the two countries.

Representatives of SIP Administrative Committee recited the poem “Homeland” which portrays SIP’s vigorous development over the past 25 years.

Two renowned artists from Suzhou Pingtan Troupe gave wonderful pingtan (storytelling and ballad singing in Suzhou dialect) performances, drawing warm applause from the audiences.

SIP Administrative Committee presented an exquisite K’o-ssu (a traditional technique in Chinese silk tapestry) work to China Culture Center (Singapore).

Concurrently, SIP’s 25th Anniversary Newspaper Clipping Exhibition opened. Scheduled to last till May 31, the exhibition showcases over 150 newspaper clippings that depict SIP’s evolution from 1994 to 2019.
