Dongshahu sub-district recently saw a variety of events designed to enrich the local children's childhood.

Linglongwan Community hosted an event to mark the Thanksgiving Day, which, celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States, fell on Nov 23 this year.

In the event, an American volunteer first gave an introduction to Thanksgiving Day, and then 20 families competed in the pumpkin rolling and cornhusking races. After that, the children made salads with the help of foreign volunteers and their parents. Finally, they wrote down their words on the postcards provided by the volunteers and gave them to their parents.

Shidai Shangchengnan Community organized a picture book reading session in Wharf Kindergarten to mark the Thanksgiving Day. The children read the picture books My Dad and My Mom, which educate them to do their best to give their parents some help in daily life.

Xingchenbei Community held a parent-child event on Nov 19, attracting 15 families. The volunteers taught the children sign language and performed a dance together with them. Then several children gave a show adapted from a picture book about helping others and being thankful for others' help. Following that the children sang an English song Little Hiawatha and made Indian hats together with their parents.

Shidai Shangchengbei Community launched a series of public-benefit classes for juveniles. In the first event, a girl who works at a local rescue team taught the children how to predict and respond to an earthquake using pictures and a scene simulation.

In Zhongnan Community, the children in Qijia (Yicheng) Kindergarten took part in a leaf drawing event on Nov 20. The children cut the leaves they had collected and collaged them into various patterns like colorful butterfly, fish and house, showcasing great creativity and imagination.
