Walks along Scenic Spots in Suzhou

As you hurry between your home and place of work, have you ever noticed the scenes along the way? Why not take a weekend day off and walk leisurely along certain route to retrace the enchanting scenes all along in Suzhou? Here are some of the classic walk routes for you reference:

East route: Round the Jinji Lake
Route: Gate of the Orient - Jinji Lake Bridge - Culture & Arts Center - Ferris Wheel Park - Xinghu Street - Jinji Lake Avenue - Ligongdi
Distance: approximately 16 km
Time needed: about 3.5 hours
Suited for: ordinary hikers

West route: Lingyan Hill to Baimajian
Route: Lingyan Hill (back side) - Tianping Hill - Gaojing Hill - Huashan Hill of Baimajian - Yangshan Hill - Shushan Hill
Time needed: about 7 or 8 hours for hikers, 4 hours in running
Suited for: people keen for physical drill, those with strenuous efforts or for self-torture
Special attention: one section of narrow pathway on Yangshan Hill is steep and requires tense physical exertion, especially for hikers 

South route: Stone Lake Scenic Area in Wuzhong District
Distance: 12 km
Time needed: about 3 hours
Suited for: ordinary hikers
Known as "a delicate lake of limpid waters", Stone Lake is located 7 kilometers to the southwest suburbs of Suzhou, with a width of 2 km from east to west and a circumference of 10 km and an area of 3.6 sq. km., overlooking the picturesque Shangfang Hill above with a pagoda atop.

North route: around the triangular Dujuan Wetland Park
Distance: 12 km
Time needed: about 3 hours
Suited for: ordinary hikers
Ideal environment and fresh air for hikers, with adequate infrastructure but no traffic flow. Daytime view should be preferred to evening view. Lots of reed marshes, and birds, herons, wild ducks, etc. in original wilderness, an exhilarating experience of hiking inside the park for urban dwellers

Central route: around the moat
Route: Xiangmen Gate - Loumen Gate - Qimen Gate - Changmen Gate - Xumen Gate - South Gate - Xiangmen Gate
Distance: about 20 km
Time needed: about 4 hours
Suited for: ordinary hikers
Strolling around the moat is to recapture the historical reminiscences and purify one's mind.
