The 2019 (5th) SIP Picture Books Carnival was held at SIP Youth & Children Center on June 15, consisting of an award ceremony, an exhibition, performances and reading and interaction activities.

It is learnt that SIP's cultural service departments and SIP Dushu Lake Library jointly launched the annual SIP Competition of Plays Adapted from Children's Picture Books in 2015 and SIP Children's Picture Book Creation Contest later, with the hope of increasing local youngsters' interest in reading and creating picture books. At the carnival, the winners in this year's events received awards.

Several award-winning plays adapted from indigenous Chinese picture books were staged at the event, while a number of invited guests shared their experiences of reading, creating and adapting picture books and interacted with the participating youngsters and their teachers and parents.

An exhibition of illustrations selected from award-winning picture books and intangible cultural heritage items was held. It is noteworthy that each of the displays had a QR code which offers people who scan it with their smartphones access to more than 6,200 electronic picture books and over 150 clips of picture-book-adapted plays at SIP Library's Online Picture Book Reading and Creation Platform.

Moreover, the event included a reading session where the participants read the picture books My Dad and David Goes to School together.
