China National Center for Biotechnology Development released the “2020 Evaluation and Analysis Report on Competitiveness of Chinese Biomedicine Clusters” during the 2020 China Biotech Innovation Conference held in SIP in November. SIP ranks second among biomedicine clusters nationwide in terms of comprehensive competitiveness, and first in terms of industrial and talent competitiveness.

SIP has stepped closer toward the goal of building a world-class biomedicine cluster. The local biomedical industry has been growing fast in recent years, with a huge pool of biotech talents and an annual increase of 20% in total industrial output value. The number of approvals that SIP-based biomedicine companies received over the past three years for new drugs accounted for over 20% of the national total.

SIP’s excellent conditions for biomedicine development have attracted a continuous flow of investment. Statistics show that biomedicine companies in SIP attract social investment of about RMB 10 billion each year. BioBAY, a biomedicine cluster in SIP, has invested hundreds of projects in collaboration with domestic and international investment organizations.

Last year, the B-zone of BioBAY came into operation, while a number of enterprises signed agreements to land their projects in the C-zone of BioBAY, marking a great improvement of BioBAY’s capacity of supporting industrialization of biomedical research outcomes.
