Ukrainian art exhibition kicks off in SIP

The “Horizon of Convergence” Ukraine Contemporary Art Exhibition kicked off at Jinji Lake Art Museum, SIP on Dec 14, and will last till Feb 28, 2020. It brings together over 50 painting, photography, sculpture, installation and video works by 10 Ukrainian artists.

The exhibition will help enhance the cultural exchange between China and Ukraine, an eastern European country covered by the Belt and Road Initiative that Chinese government has been pushing on in the hope of connecting the East Asian and European economic circles for win-win cooperation.
“SIP demonstrates perfect incorporation of traditional Suzhou cultural elements and modern industrial characteristics. It exhibits some common cultural traits as my hometown Kiev. We hope the exhibition will open a door for future cooperation between Suzhou and Kiev,” said Kovalchuk Ostap, vice rector of the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture of Ukraine who has led the design for the exhibition and a series of other Ukrainian art exhibitions in China.
The exhibits, by artists of different ages and from different parts of Ukraine and different realms of art, are breaking people’s stereotyped perception of contemporary Ukrainian art, and give a holistic picture of Ukrainian culture and art in the 21st century.
