Bright East Group Invests 2B in Fiber-optic Park in SIP
Bright East Group held a ground-breaking ceremony on May 27 for its two-billion-yuan communication optical fiber project at Shengpu Town in Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP).
Taking up a land area of 520 mu, the local facility of the Beijing-based Group will be dedicated to the development, production, and sales of plastic fiber-optic for communications and related projects. The Group management planned to build 100 production lines and 100 coating lines in three years and to make it the head office and R&D center in South China. The expected annual capacity of the project is 2400,000 km with the annual sales of 12 billion yuan.

The communications plastic fiber-optic project is a cooperation fruit of the Group and Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry at China Academy of Sciences (CAS) and enjoys great market potentials as a high-quality basic material for integrating three networks of telecom, computer, and cable TV. It took the experts of CAS a decade to develop the core technologies of the project and, as the only low-attenuation plastic fiber-optic for communications that is independently developed by Chinese researchers, the product will break up the monopoly by foreign products at the domestic market.

The inauguration of the project is in line with SIP's overall development plan of promoting converged communications sector, and will promote the optimization of local industrial structure as well as economic transformation and upgrading.
