Knowles (Suzhou) Unveils Design & Development Center

Knowles Electronics (Suzhou) held an opening ceremony on May 25 for its design & development center and the expansion of its silicon microphone factory. With the opening of an design & development center, the Company has transformed from a manufacturing entity to a more competitive market player with independent R&D strength.

As the leading designer and manufacturer of advanced acoustic components, Knowles opened its first production facility in SIP 15 years ago in 1995. In the past eight years, it has invested to expand capacity for four times and increased its registered capital from 1.6 to 56 million US dollars with a total investment of 120 million dollars and the number of its employees grew from 76 to 2,600.

Knowles established local R&D division in 2004 and, after six years of continuous growth, now has the capacity of designing machinery, product, PCBA, packaging, auto system, and electronic simulation. Its patents include the world's smallest high-output low-vibration receiver, the first continuous micro-optical zoom lens for mobile phones, and the first ear-type receiver for hearing aids. The Company infused two million dollars in equipping the Design&Development Center with new state-of-the-art equipment and instruments to backup its talented R&D team.

"Knowles keeps upgrading itself and has successfully transformed from a manufacturing enterprise to a company engaged in R&D, marketing, production, and quality control," observed Deputy Director Sun Yanyan of SIP Administrative Committee. "In other words, it has expanded toward both ends of the Smile Curve." In this sense, the Company serves as a role model for other SIP-based companies. Currently, SIP has gathered more than 3,900 foreign enterprises and 160 R&D centers.
