MOU Signing Ceremony on Investment in Technology Development Center
Umicore Automotive Catalysts (Suzhou) held on May 25 an MOU signing ceremony on investment in its Technology Development Center and Phase 3 facility expansion startup in Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP). Taking up one third of Chinese market share with auto catalyst products, the Company decided to expand local production capacity and to invest 400 million yuan in R&D facility so as to meet the rising demand.

Headquartered in Belgium, Umicore is a world leading suppliers of metal materials and its products are extensively used on emission control catalysts and rechargeable batteries. As one of the top three auto catalyst producers in the world, its branch in Suzhou takes up one third of catalyst market share in China.

Since its registration in 2003, the Company has increased its investment from 16.5 to 156 million US dollars. Currently, its sales exceed 100 million dollars and the Phase 2 facility is soon to be in service. The Technology Development Center, expected to complete in 2012, will be used for testing the engine emission performance and the performance of catalysts as well as for developing the cutting-edge catalyst applications and the air pollution control systems. The management hopes that the Center will provide technical support to the development of modern technologies that can be applied in its Chinese business.
