An event was held in SIP to mark the Learn from Lei Feng Day, an official day celebrated on Mar 5 in the country to call on people to learn from the good deeds of Lei Feng (1940 to 1962), a People’s Liberation Army (PLA) soldier characterized as a model of altruism.
The “Starlight” program was launched at the event to spread the volunteerism, motivate people to serve as volunteers and help volunteers improve their service abilities. The program will be piloted for half a year, during which it may be modified based on the participants’ feedback. Then it is expected to become a long-term program.
It was announced at the event that the “My Story of Learning from Lei Feng” channel has been opened on the Kan Suzhou app, with a story told by a volunteer from SIP every day from Feb 24.
Five volunteer teams consisting of members working on AI, biotechnology, healthcare, nanotech and environmental technology were formed. The volunteers will participate in various campaigns to impart knowledge on science and technology to residents.
The 2024 SIP New Era Civilization Practice Volunteer Service Program was unveiled, including educational, cultural, health and other services for residents in SIP.
The 10th “Charity Partners Plan” was announced. The “Charity Partners Plan” that has been run in SIP for 10 years has fostered a number of sustainable programs focusing on assistance in schooling, environmental improvement, spread of culture and art and community development. A total of 247 enterprises have donated funds and supplies totaling RMB7.06 million under 218 projects to help over 100,000 people. Achievements under the plan were showcased on site.
In addition, a number of volunteers provided free handy services during the event.
