Flowers Blooming at Hexi Lane (Hua Kai He Xi Xiang), the first mental health-themed musical in China, was staged by Suzhou Song and Dance Theater at Suzhou Culture and Arts Centre, SIP on Jan 19.
The musical is based on a series of true stories that happened at Suzhou Taohuawu Mental Health Rehabilitation Station which, led by Wang Liangyu, one of the “Good Samaritans of Jiangsu”, is recognized by the World Health Organization as a typical case of mental management.
The performance follows a string of stories between Yao, the head of a mental health rehabilitation station, and people with various mental disorders. It leads the audiences to learn about the hidden inner world of people with mental disorders.
