Sponsored by SIP Administration of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and organized by SIP Public Cultural Center, a lecture themed “A View on Liangzhu Culture and Chinese Civilization” was given at SIP Library on Mar 12.
The event was one of the “Caoxieshan Cultural Lectures” that are held in SIP on a regular basis to disseminate culture related to the Caoxieshan cultural heritage site in SIP, which is hailed as the “center of prehistoric culture” in the region south of the Yangtze River.
In the event, Li Xinwei, a researcher and director of Overseas Archaeology Research Office at the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, gave the participants a talk on Liangzhu culture, a late Neolithic culture (3300 BC – 2300 BC), and the origin of Chinese civilization. Li also expounded on the significance of the discovery and archaeological excavation of the Caoxieshan Site for research of the Liangzhu culture.
The lecture was live-streamed so that archaeology enthusiasts all over the country could watch it.
