The kids in 12 families in difficult circumstances in SIP’s Xietang Sub-district are carefully taking care of the vegetable seedlings they newly planted, full of expectations for their growth. This has made their life during the COVID-19 lockdown much more interesting.
The sub-district office launched the “Seedlings Plan” on Apr 17 in a move to help the kids learn more about plants, try to grow some and gain a better understanding of love, trust and hope in the process.
The staff from the office gave various seedlings, substrates and pots to the children, and a teacher from Suzhou Polytechnic Institute of Agriculture taught them online the methods of growing the vegetables. The children now take photos of their seedlings every day and post them online to share with each other the growing process of their plants.
