Santen Vision Park, Japanese pharmaceutical company Santen Pharmaceutical’s new manufacturing facility in SIP, was completed on Apr 16. Costing about RMB2.5 billion, the 12,600-square-meter facility is expected to make at least 840 million eye drops each year after it reaches the designed capacity.
Founded in 1890, Santen is Japan’s biggest ophthalmic products manufacturer. It set up an ophthalmic drug manufacturing base in SIP in 2005, and a medicine marketing company later.
Santen launched construction on the new manufacturing facility in 2020, aiming to develop it into a smart factory boasting scientific decision-making based on advanced data management. The facility is equipped with highly automatic devices and systems for production and management.
