The Suzhou Junior Symphony Orchestra (SJSO), which is composed of over 100 youngsters aged between 10 and 18, performed a list of classic symphony works at Shanghai Oriental Art Center recently. It is the first time that the SJSO gave a performance outside Suzhou since its founding last year.

The SJSO was founded under the collaboration of Suzhou Education Bureau and SIP-based company New Era Group. Suzhou Symphony Orchestra, run by New Era Group, provided training for the SJSO members, and its music director Chen Xieyang serves as the music director of the SJSO.

Chen directed the first part of the performance which included the overture to “Die Fledermaus” by Johann Strauss II and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 in F, Op. 68 “Pastoral”. The second part was led by Zhong Hongliang, conductor of the SJSO.

It is learnt that the SJSO also put on a performance in Suzhou last weekend.
