The Ecological Protection Base of SIP’s Weiting Sub-district offered an interesting class for children on Apr 17 to spread knowledge on Grain Rain which, the sixth of the 24 Chinese Solar Terms and the last in spring, fell on Apr 20 this year.
Grain Rain, just as the name implies, is a crucial time for grains to grow. There is an old saying, "Rain brings up hundreds of grains," which shows the importance of this period.
In the event, a staff member from the Ecological Protection Base explained in detail the importance of Grain Rain for farming and related customs to the participating children, gave them an introduction to birds often seen during this period, and taught them to plant sunflower and coreopsis seedlings in a small garden. When encountering several cuckoos, magpies and doves in the garden, the children discussed methods of protecting birds and environment.
