The quality of the water in the northern part of SIP was greatly improved in 2022. The quality of water in Zhujia Village reached the Class II standard, while the total phosphorus concentration in the Yangcheng Lake was 0.038mg/l, reduced by 14% compared with that in 2020. From January to November, 88.7% of the water at 62 monitoring sites in Weiting Sub-district was maintained at a level above Class III, and the figure in 2021 was 61%.

The achievements stem from a systematic sewage control action that was launched in 2019 to upgrade related facilities, improve watercourses and curb pollution.

A task group formed concurrently made specific plans for 18 tasks, and it makes a progress report to SIP Administrative Committee on a monthly basis.

The action started with a survey covering 562 kilometers of pipelines and 2,134 rainwater and sewage outfalls.

Based on the results of the survey, the task group and the parties concerned took a series of actions to upgrade pipelines, standardize sewage disposal, dredge watercourses and prevent and control pollution.

It is worth mentioning that digital technology is applied to ensure timely updates about the waters in the area for detail-oriented, all-around management of water environment.
