Saint-Gobain Abrasives (Suzhou) Co Ltd, the Suzhou factory of French multinational corporation Saint-Gobain, held a ceremony in SIP on Oct 17 to launch its “new journey toward net zero carbon emission”. At the event, the company received the certification for carbon neutrality in power supply from TÜV Süd, an acknowledged assessment and certifying institution.

Saint-Gobain, a Fortune 500 enterprise, set up the Suzhou factory in SIP in 2006 to develop and manufacture various kinds of abrasives. The factory has achieved an annual reduction of carbon emission of 10% from 2018 relying on a series of efforts to erase carbon footprint, such as adopting eco-friendly facilities including a photovoltaic power station, employing a real-time carbon emission monitoring system, and renovating ventilation and heating systems to cut down on energy consumption. Its carbon emission has decreased by 3,350 tons over the past four years.

“The Suzhou factory has set an example for all Saint-Gobain factories. We’ll roll out its environmental management mode across our global network in the hope of realizing zero carbon emission in all of our factories by 2050,” said Loic MAHE, vice presidents of Saint-Gobain Abrasives Asia Pacific.
