Suzhou Contemporary Art Museum unveiled the “Space Productivity” Series of Projects on Apr 20, and the first of these projects, the “Song Dong: Eating the City” exhibition opened at the commercial plaza of Suzhou Olympic Sports Centre concurrently, attracting art enthusiasts from Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing and other cities.

The exhibition boasted a “city” built by Chinese artist Song Dong and 20 volunteers with biscuits of varied shapes and colors. Song has given 29 exhibitions of similar kind in different cities in 16 countries and regions, which he hopes can showcase the “temperaments of different cities” and inspire the viewers to think about the relations between humans and cities.

The “city” stood on 36 tables that were two meters wide and four meters long, and many “landscape buildings” were created by the volunteers based on their understanding of the prototypes.

It is learned that the biscuits used for this exhibition were provided by Mondelez International, and most of them were given to the participants after the exhibition while the contaminated ones were recycled for proper disposal.
