Chen Zhiming, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), gave a lecture themed “The Role of Mathematics in the Real World” at The High School Affiliated to Xi’an Jiaotong University, SIP on Apr 28, leading the school’s students into the fantastic world of mathematics.
From the concepts of the prominent mathematicians Euclid and Turing to the role of mathematical modelling in aerospace engineering, Chen gave the students a talk on the relations between mathematical theories and application using easy-to-understand language, and shared with them the latest outcomes of several mathematical studies. He also recommended books to the students, and answered their questions.
