The news briefing on Aug 31 confirmed that the Curling World Cup 2018-2019 will kick off at Suzhou Olympic Sports Centre (SZOSC), SIP on Sept 12. A total of 24 teams from 10 countries and regions including China, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Russia, the Republic of Korea, Japan, the United States, Canada and Scotland will participate.

The Curling World Cup is a new annual four-leg event initiated by World Curling Federation last year. It is the only international competitive curling event featuring women's, men's and mixed doubles tournaments. This year's event will start in Suzhou and, after a tour to the Ralston Arena in the United States and then Jonkoping in Sweden, conclude in Beijing in May 2019.

The Curling World Cup opener will be the first competitive sports event held at the newly completed SZOSC gymnasium. Currently, a 1,500-sqm high-standard ice arena tailored for the event is being built, while tickets for 4,500 seats are being sold. It is reported that a series of experience activities will be held during the event for local citizens to better understand the sport.
