The Suzhou Contemporary Art Museum that is being built on the right bank of Jinji Lake is taking shape. It is expected to become a new landmark in the area.

Currently, about 80% of the curtain walls for the exterior facades of the museum have been finished, and outdoor landscaping is underway. The project is scheduled to complete at the end of this year, and come into trial operation next year.

The project will comprise nine buildings connected by corridors, with exhibition halls in the middle and public service and commercial facilities including a theater on the periphery.

The design, by Danish architecture studio BIG, is based on a modern comprehension of Suzhou’s classical gardens, according to Wang Xiaosong, executive curator of the museum.

Wang said the museum would serve as a platform for marvelous art works from around the globe and a space that inspires creativity.
