The seven-day summer camp organized by the CPC branch of Fengmao Community in SIP’s Shengpu Sub-district offered the participating youngsters a rare opportunity to experience the military, rural and traditional Chinese cultural life in one project.
In the military part, the campers learnt to fold up their quilts into cubes and clean their rooms, and attended military training in simulated battlefields.
To experience rural life, the campers toured a farm to identify various plants and learn about farming techniques. They also attended a lecture on soilless culture, planted flowers in pots, picked vegetables and fruits, and made flower cakes and dumplings with fresh ingredients.
In terms of cultural life, the youngsters recited ancient literary works and learnt to enjoy tea, use incense powder and play guqin (Chinese 7-stringed zither) in traditional ways.
Before the closing of the summer camp, each of the youngsters received a “Certification of Graduation” and a gift.
