SIP’s Weiting Sub-district saw a parent-child event on Aug 6 when 15 families participated in three groups as water protectors.
In the event, the participants first learnt knowledge on waste sorting and water source protection from the volunteer teacher, and then toured around the Archaeological Site Park of Caoxieshan to learn about the ancient civilization in the region south of the Yangtze River.
After that, the participants drew a diagram of water cycle, made resin plant specimens, learnt to test water quality, and patrolled the banks of Yangcheng Lake to pick up the litter all the way through. They also observed aquatic plants and animals to learn about the ecosystem in the lake.
Finally, the water protectors shared their feelings about the event.
“I now know how natural water is turned into drinking water, and the importance of protecting water sources. I will share the knowledge with my classmates after returning to school. And we will protect our environment together,” said one of the children.
