The “Life in Jiangnan” exhibition, which features “red” as the dominant hue of the exhibition pavilion, opened at SIP Library on Jan 10. On display are over 30 genre paintings by Prof. Li Han, a Suzhou-native painter.

The paintings, drawn on silk instead of paper, depict aspects of everyday life in Jiangnan (the region south of the Yangtze River) by portraying people engaged in common activities such as festival celebrations, wedding, birthday parties and so on. The exhibits vividly showcase many traditional customs in this region and people’s attitude toward life.

The exhibition is a lead-up to a series of events that SIP Library will organize to celebrate the Chinese New Year that will come on Feb 1. Among the events are folk art exhibitions, lucky draw, family photo collection and serial reading activities.
