Communities in SIP’s Shengpu Sub-district recently hosted diverse events to usher in the Chinese New Year which will fall on Feb 1.
Binjiangyuan Community organized an event where the participants tasted various traditional snacks, received festive couplets written by calligraphy enthusiasts online, and listened to the volunteers’ introduction to local intangible cultural heritage like traditional costumes, Shengpu folk songs and xuanjuan (a traditional storytelling and ballad singing in Suzhou dialect). Taking the chance, the volunteers also expounded on the importance of COVID-19 prevention and vaccination to the residents.
In Fenghuangcheng Community, a team of volunteers who are not locals but have decided to spend their holiday in SIP to help prevent the spread of coronavirus joined the local property management workers to conduct safety checks across the community, hoping to ensure a safe and happy environment during the festival.
