Suzhou UL-CCIC Co Ltd, a branch of Illinois-headquartered safety certification company UL in SIP, recently acquired the approval from the Certification and Accreditation Administration of China for issuing China Green Product (CGP) certificates, making UL the first foreign-funded certification body to acquire such qualification in the country.

UL forayed into the Chinese market in 1980, and set up Suzhou UL-CCIC in SIP’s Yangcheng Lake Peninsula Tourist Resort in 2003 in collaboration with China Certification & Inspection Group. The branch has since then secured a fast development. Its eco-friendly high-tech testing center is known as the biggest UL lab outside its US headquarters.

The UL-CCIC CGP certification currently covers two product categories: wood-based panels and wood flooring, and coatings, and is expected to cover more in the future to meet the needs of different green product manufacturers. The CGP qualification enables UL to be more instrumental in helping these manufacturers improve product safety, enhance competitiveness, and further expand market potential.

Moreover, UL has blazed a trail by combining the CGP and its ECOLOGO certifications which are both Type-1 eco-labels that evaluate multi-attribute environmental performance criteria based on a product’s lifecycle impact. Enterprises that sell in national and international markets can pursue dual certification to CGP and UL ECOLOGO. UL can help them reduce the cost of certification and shorten the certification timeline.
