Materials Science Gusu Lab (Gusu Lab for short), an SIP-headquartered laboratory focusing on development and innovation of material science, was inaugurated and awarded the title of “Laboratory of Jiangsu Province” on June 30.
It is reported that RMB 20 billion will be invested under two five-year plans to build Gusu Lab into a world-class public platform for solving key challenges in the field of material science.
Gusu Lab’s headquarters in SIP boasts a land area of 500 mu (about 33 hectares). The lab aims to build up a team of 1,000-plus professionals engaged in related fields under the first five-year plan, and increase the number of backbone personnel to more than 3,000 by 2030.
At the inauguration, Suzhou government signed agreements with Chinese Academy of Sciences and University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) to launch cooperation in the development of Gusu Lab.
Moreover, Gusu Lab inked agreements with Nanjing University, USTC, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Soochow University and several enterprises for a number of cooperative projects.
